How to prevent my Mac to restart almost every time I close the lid

Many times (should I say almost every time) I close the lid and I don't work on it for a while, my Mac restarts.

What can I do to prevent my Mac from doing this?

MacBook Pro 14″

We have very little info. to go on in order to help troubleshoot. Yet your question deserves a reply.

Wondering which MacBook Pro model (year) you are using,

(How to: Identify your MacBook Pro model - Apple Support

and

which MacOS version is installed, (Eg: Apple menu > About this Mac)

If you haven't already, updating to the newest MacOS

(What's new in the updates for macOS Ventura - Apple Support: says Ventura MacOS 13.4 is the latest)

and

whether your Mac has enough memory / storage space (eg 50Gb free) in which to operate smoothly,

How to: See used and available storage space on your Mac – Apple Support

and

If needed: how to Free up storage space on your Mac - Apple Support

and

whether third-party (non-Apple) apps (especially ad-blockers, cleaners, unnecessary virus checkers, etc, or apps that are no longer compatible) could be causing difficulties. Try turning off any such apps., (even VPN. "Chrome", etc., can cause issues) or uninstall using the uninstaller from the developer if you identify a troublesome app.

and

whether or not a particular app is always in use when Mac restarts:

Eg: What to do: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly or won’t open – Apple Support

If not a particular app: What to do If your Mac restarted because of a problem – Apple Support

If the issue is occurring when the Mac is plugged into power,

check that the connection is stable, and the adapter is not at fault.

All the best :-)

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful reply, and added info., gmara.

As your Mac is so new, (and under warranty) seems it would be best to check directly with the experts.

Hi brbo!

Thx so much for your reply, I really appreciate

Some answers to your questions:

It's a MacBook Pro 14-inch 2023, with an Apple M2 Max, 32 GB Memory, Ventura 13.4

Storage: 512 GB, with currently 200GB free

About third party apps, among the ones you mention, the only one I usually use is Chrome (a web browser I find is better than Safari)

Since I bought it (last month), this Mac never restarted because of a problem, just when it goes into sleep mode

Thx again!

All the best for you too!
