cd burner not recognized by MacBook air

my MacBook air (m1, 2020) doesn't recognize my external cd burner. they are connected with a usb-c to usb adapter. however, the burner does power on and spins the cd inside.

MacBook Air won't recognize external Apple CD drive I just upgraded to a MacBook Air (Aug 23) and it is not recognizing my Apple CD drive. A CD will not insert into the drive, it pops back out. I have it attached to a USB-USC adaptor, and other items plugged into it are working. I have tried: switching to a different port, changing which USC device goes in which port on the computer.

external cd-drive not recognized when plugged in Have not connected my CD-drive to my Mac in quite some time. Now my Mac doesn't recognize the drive, i.e. no response when plugged in.

Has this device ever worked with your laptop? If not, have you verified that this CD burner still works with other devices? If so, it just may not be compatible. Have you contacted the device's manufacturer to see if they can assist you with this issue?
