The green dot started appearing without using any backround applications, i know what it does, it indicates when the camera is in use, but the problem is, it is showing up without using the camera, without backround applications, i think someone is spying on me.

Troubleshooting the Green-Dot:

A. About this Green Dot:

  1. Go Here: About the Orange and Green Indicators in your iPhone Status Bar - Apple Support
  2. As it Reads: "A green indicator means either the camera or the camera and the microphone are being used by an app on your iPhone."

B. Close All Apps:

An app is accessing your audio. So, close all apps. Hold you finger down as you swipe up from the bottom-left corner to the top-right cornet. Then, close all of these open apps, by sweeping up quickly for each app.

C. Disable Camera:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Screen Time
  3. Tap: Content & Privacy Restrictions
  4. Tap: Allowed Apps
  5. Tap: Camera (so that it is dulled out)

"Okay but what about the green dot appearing without using any backround images, or applications that dont even have permission for the camera, isnt that a sign for having a spyware? Yesterday appeard 4 times, i was in the settings, no backround apps and such, im a bit scared"

So, who is the seller?

  • If it is Apple:

Set Up a Genius Bar Appointment:

Have no worries. It is a misconfiguration on, and you need to take it to them, getting this fixed. Set up a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store. There, it will be looked at and you'll be provided with your options to fix this.

  • If it Is not Apple:

Return this:

Take it back to the seller, requesting a return. Prior to bringing this in, perform as instructed here, including the iCloud logout: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Okay, thanks for that, but what if every app has no permissions at all, but the green dot appears again, is that a sign of spyware?"

You are welcome.

No. It is just that there is an app using your iSight Camera.

For note...

About a Hacked iPhone:

The only way for an iPhone to be hacked is if it is jailbroken. So, who is the seller? If purchased form Apple or an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider), then no worries there. If purchased elsewhere, then that might be a bit concerning in this case.

Restore your iPhone or Reset it:

If you are so concerned, then restore from a backup or reset your iPhone to factory settings. Important: Back Up First: Be sure create a back up your iPhone prior to performing an update, that way you have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go wrong afterwards.

A. Restoring from a Backup:

Did your ever back up your iPhone with these installed? If so, back up you could back up your iPhone, and then restore it from the backup.

or...

B. Resetting to Factory Settings:

Another option would be to reset this to factory settings, as if you were to sell it. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Perform as instructed there, including the backup creation and iCloud logout.

Where did you hear that? Any competent hacker would make sure that there was no indication the phone was hacked; you wouldn’t even see a green light.

Is this about an iPhone or an iPad? Your profile says iPad.

You can use Apple’s security analysis→Checklist: If you want to see if anyone else has access to your device or accounts - Apple Support to check out your device.

But if you are really concerned you should restore the phone and set it up as a new phone, and don’t restore a backup.

Jailbroken:

Unfortunately, there really is no way to know if it has been jailbroken. But, if you purchased it from Apple, then no worries there.

It's about iphone sir, Iphone 14 pro max. I contacted apple support several times and some of them said that theres nothing to worry about, some of them said it can be a software problem/glitch/bug, some didn't help me at all, and because my battery starts draining fast and sometimes heats, the person who i think hacked my iphone i know when he is online and when offline, when he is online my iphone starts heating up, the battery drains fast, not like really fast a bit fast, i'm not sure what to do.

The only way to hack an iPhone is to have it in one's hot little hands while it is unlocked for about 30 minutes. If this happened then restore the phone to factory settings and do not restore a backup, as I said above. Or if you are convinced it is hacked regardless of the reassurances you have had then you will not rest easy until the phone is completely cleared and set up as a new phone. Doing so is guaranteed to remove any hacking.

To be extra safe restore it to factory settings using DFU mode→How To Put An iPhone In DFU Mode, The Apple Way
