Apple Music is not using the Apple ID I am logged in with

I have a brand new Macbook Air M2 13.6" 2022. I am logged in with the Apple ID I have been using for years, on my iPhone and iPad.

However, when I launch Apple Music... it uses the Apple ID I lost around 20 years ago. I can see content from the old lost apple id, but I cannot play it.

The instructions I found via google on these forums from 2012 say to log out of the old ID - one, i lost it decades ago and thats why I have a new one, and even if I did... log out where? All three of my Apple devices are logged in with the new ID.

Help?

Well I do not understand any of this but it worked. I logged out, logged back in with new_ID, was immediately asked to authorize so typed in same ID and pw I had just typed in 2-3 seconds ago... and I was now logged in as the new account.

However, all of the music from the old_ID was still on the screen, and works.

  • do not understand how it knew old ID
  • do not understand why it gave me old IDs music when i authorized new ID.
  • happy to be listening to beastie boys I bought in 1989

I guess it is a net win?
