Print large document over a grid of pages?

I have a large “poster sized” (48×36 inches) document in Pages. Before I send it to a commercial print shop, I want to proof it on my 8.5×11 inch printer.

There is a similar question from 2015: Print large PDF in Preview over several pages? - Apple Community

It suggests installing Adobe’s Acrobat Reader. I tried that today on macOS Monterey and it did work fine. But I have had poor experiences with Adobe software on Mac, and I am not fond of their subscription pricing model.

Is “poster tiling” available on any Apple software?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free, not subscription-ware. There are third-party tiling applications in the Mac App Store as this is not a feature of macOS applications. Here is a link to PDFSplitter as an example of this capability.

The actual Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is a free application forever. I know what I am talking about because I have been using it for a very long time.

However, Adobe has changed their official Acrobat Reader web site. It used to clearly offer two different download buttons: 1) Download Acrobat Reader, and 2) Download Acrobat Pro (trial), and now it would appear they have removed Acrobat Pro DC from that page. Probably as it was so confusing to people.

Either button on that site appears to download the same installer, but historically, just the free Reader version was always in the upper-left area of that page.

Adobe has a separate web page for Acrobat with pricing and free trials offered there.

OK, thanks. The left sidebar contained a list of actions, most with a blue star. At the bottom it said:

Convert, edit and e-sign PDF forms & agreements

Free 7-Day Trial

So it is not a “fully” free app. I was unclear on what would continue to work after a week. I assume you mean the tiling feature would.

When an application in the Mac App Store has a clearly visible price of $5.99, it is not a free application. Had I checked further about its last update (6 yr ago) and compatible with macOS 10.7 or later, I would not have suggested the application.

There used to be several of this type of application in the Mac App Store, but that has changed with time, and I have no further application suggestion.

You (VikingOSX) said “Adobe Acrobat Reader is free.” I replied that it is “not a ‘fully’ free app” because it is clearly marked “Free 7-Day Trial.”

My preference would be to have poster print tiling in an app from Apple. Failing that, Adobe Acrobat Reader seems fine. However since the last time I needed this capability was ~13 years ago, I'm not sure it is worth keeping a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader on my Mac, since it consumes an incredible 1.1 gigabytes on disk.
