Transferring my iPad Photos to an external Hard Drive.

With the impending closure of the Photos Cloud Storage, I need to reorganise and save my photos. I have a 2T G-Drive SSD R series and therefore with my 4yr old iPad, I can connect a Sandstrom Battery pack to give required power, transferring via the Apple Camera adapter. My difficulty is how to logically transfer the iPad Photos Albums or the entire Library, as it appears that I have to transfer selected images individually. I have made a Backup to my 24" M1 iMac running iOS 13.4, but can't locate the backup files.

Sadly as a retired Photographer I have previously used iPhotos, then Aperture and finally Lightroom CC (that I can no longer use), my unique and Historic Photo files are in a mess, no doubt with numerous Duplicates. Can anyone kindly help sort this out?

Apple’s iCloud Photo storage is not closing - but Apple is closing the very old iCloud My Photo Stream service:

Information about the My Photo Stream shutdown - Apple Support

iOS/iPadOS devices don’t natively support backup to external storage devices or other Cloud services. Natively supported backup methods are to iCloud or to a Windows PC/Mac computer running iTunes or Finder:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Supported methods offer full system backup - consisting of data and device settings.

It is possible, however, to use a third-party App to backup data (not device settings) and the iPad Photo Library to a variety of external storage options - including third-party Cloud services and network storage. One App that comes readily to mind is FileBrowser Professional by Stratospherix:

While this App will almost certainly meet your stated need, you might wish to review the extensive online Manual and help files to determine suitability for your requirements.

Speaking of personal experience, I am yet to encounter a file storage or file/photo backup scenario that the App won’t handle. I routinely use USB and Cloud storage for this purpose. File Browser also integrates directly with the native Files App, further simplifying file and photo management.
