Hello printed text,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We see you're getting a server error when trying to change your Apple ID password on your Mac. We have a few steps that may help you resolve the issue.

  1. If using a VPN or Firewall, disable those and try again.
  2. See if another Wi-Fi network will let you connect: Connect your Mac to the internet using Wi-Fi - Apple Support
  3. Fully restart the Mac and try again: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

4. Try in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

By the time I received this I had accessed my macbook, by a different route and one which I think other users will find useful.

Error connecting to apple id server can't sign into MacBook Pro after turning it off

These are the step that I took and my macbook, functions much better:

  1. P ram -clears and resets system cache
  2. Resetting vram
  3. Resetting smc system management controller
  4. When asking for Apple ID / password again, this time I restarted and it gave 3 options for why password wouldn’t work

Selected middle one and could change password to simple one lowercase and numbers

Hope that helps others, as this seems to be a common problem.
