Desktop and document folders (System settings) will not turn on.

I have moved these folders around or deleted now I can't not return to normal.

Why is this allowed to be deleted if that important?

The two folders Desktop and Documents are in iCloud empty.

Mac mini, macOS 13.4

Desktop and files missing after disabling iCloud on Mac I un-synced from iCloud because it kept pestering me to pay for more storage. when I did, I lost EVERYTHING on my desktop and none of the suggestions here have worked. Unable to turn on iCloud desktop and documents I just received a new to me Macbook Pro M1 and I am struggling to get my desktop items and folders to appear. I try to turn on Desktop & Documents folders but then it just spins. If I click done and then go back in its turned off again. When I click on the iCloud drive ? icon in Finder it shows downloading 1 item 0 of 1 byte. I've tried restarting, signing out and signing back into iCloud. Attached is an image of whats going on.

I have latest Macbook Air Ventura and my desktop and documents folder will NOT stay checked in icloud. What can I do? The desktop & document folder will NOT stay enabled when I click on it in iCloud. Strangely enough documents are showing on my old Macbook air desktop but not on my new one. What else can I try?

I have the same problem, icloud for documents and desktop was turned off altogether
