While working in Photos on my mac, the app suddenly quiet. When I reopened, a block of 10 years worth of photos is missing. How do I get them back? They are on my phone

First check your trash in the photos app to see if there. If they're really gone for some reason you could use your Time machine backup to retrieve the photos library or you could send from your iPhone to your Mac. They may also be in iCloud if you had that set to sync your photos.
