iPad full sized keyboard with scribble enabled

It seems this question / feature request has been posted before with little or no response other than “you can’t get there from here”.

This is super frustrating, especially as one who is new to the platform. It seems that scribble is an all or nothing proposition; enable it in settings and the full size keyboard becomes very tricky to access, disable it in settings and scribble is inaccessible (without going back into settings).

Please tell me I’m missing something. Why isn’t there simply a “key” on each keyboard to swap from full to mini? This just seems like a massive oversight that shouldn’t be hard to fix.

For those in my boat, the nearest workaround I’ve found is to dismiss the keyboard, set the pencil aside and tap with a finger. Doesn’t work with pencil in hand.

I’m quite sure I’m not defining the behavior exactly right, I’ll update if I figure it out completely.

Apple invite submission of comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

If you would like to see new or modified functionality in a future release of iPadOS, or wish to bring to Apple’s attention a perceived shortcoming with current functionality, this would the most appropriate channel through which to communicate a request or general feedback.
