Gmail notifications only stating new mail

For the past couple of days my gmail notifications are only stating that I have a new mail ☹️. Previously I’d get a new mail notification with the senders name and subject heading.

i haven’t changed any settings so what am I missing?

Hi Goozbry70,

Thank you for checking that setting and clarifying further. If this is occurring with the Gmail app rather than the iOS Mail app, you will want to check Settings > Notifications for the Gmail app and verify the settings there. If those settings appear to be correct, and you're still having this issue, we'd suggest contacting the app developer for Gmail for support:

Hi,

I’ve checked the settings you mention and I have them as you suggested.

all I get as a preview is ‘you have a new message’. It’s beyond frustrating and I really can’t work out where it’s gone wrong!

when I click on the notification it takes me to gmail (once the phone is unlocked) and there is a notification saying that the notification can’t be opened and that I may need to update gmail. I assume from this that maybe the issue is the gmail app’s issue??

Hi Goozbry70,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like your Gmail Notifications aren't showing previews as they once were. You can change this in Settings > Notifications > Mail. Scroll down to Show Previews and choose Always or When Unlocked.
