What is bosUpdateProxy uploading?

It seems very suspicious that the following tickets are unanswered for last 4 years which raises huge privacy concerns. Why isn't anyone from apple responding on these queries?

@etresoft a respected forum contributor already mentioned it is a part of macOS although they did not know exactly what it did (first link you posted).

According to this Reddit post, it is part of the BridgeOS:

Here is a short explanation of BridgeOS:

I had no clue either, but it helps to perform an online search to see if there are any hits which make sense.

Actually the only question you have actually asked is:

Why isn't anyone from apple responding on these queries?

And how can anyone really answer it? I can only tell you that I never even heard of bosUpdateProxy until your post which may be the most likely reason, but I cannot really speak for anyone else.

You do realize that Apple likes their secrets? Apple does not like to share information with the public even when there is no reason for something to be secret.

The item you are referencing is in the lower levels of macOS where very few people outside of Apple (and very few inside I would imagine) would even know it exists much less what it is & how it works. I probably should have mentioned that @etresoft who I mentioned in my last post is also an independent developer who has made some third party apps for macOS...they didn't know and they are probably the most knowledgeable of the regular contributors into the inner workings of macOS. The two most likely sites to possibly even delve into things like this are MrMacintosh and eclecticlight.

My concern is in knowing what sort of data is being uploaded, I'd appreciate if someone has answer to my question specifically.

Very doubtful you will find anyone with that information especially if you've already searched online. It seems like maybe you should investigate this yourself by analyzing the network traffic, at least for a start. No? That is part of the reason no one here can answer the question. I personally have more pressing matters to investigate when supporting our organization's thousands of Macs.

Shouldn't we wait for someone who knows to answer.

Weren't you just complaining about waiting 4 years? Now you want to wait? 😄

I expected a platform provided by apple to have atleast some degree of experts, developers or engineers.

We are all experts, with varying levels of expertise.

Expected this forum to be the best place to get the answer.

I think that was a valid expectation. Just don't assume that the answer you get is the answer you wanted. 😄

As your research has already determined, this is an Apple process, uploading data to an Apple server. None of us know what it is uploading. If I had to guess, I would guess it is uploading analytics data, crash logs, and similar things. When it comes to the amount of analytics data and crash logs produced on an average Mac, I can assure you that 500 MB is a very small portion of that.

But regardless, that's just a guess. Apple provides very little explanation of what the operating system does at this level. In fact, what you are describing is several levels below Apple's already low interest in providing systems information.

What does it matter? Do you have doubts about Apple's commitment to privacy? Do you have any evidence that Apple is not, in fact, the company with the best track record of protecting user privacy? Even if we assume that Apple isn't as good as they claim, is there any evidence that they aren't still much better than other similar companies?

If Apple is the one you are worried about, then you need to get off the Internet right away and destroy all of your devices. Because if Apple is siphoning off your personal data via its embedded OS update service, then it's totally hopeless. All is lost.

Or, you could take the other extreme. Get a Facebook account, a gmail account, setup a camera and livestream your life. With any luck, you'll go viral, get on a podcast or two, and start making some money from your newfound celebrity and product endorsements. Maybe become a Mac security blogger and internet researcher.
