When my Photo Stream is turned off will my photos remain on my MacBook Air hard drive?

When my Photo Stream is turned off will my photos remain on my computer hard drive under my Library? I cannot afford iCloud and shouldn't be forced to pay monthly to store photos on my computer.

Are you sure that you’re even using My Photo Stream? (A predecessor to iCloud Photos)

I am using iCloud - I am paying for 50g right now, but don't want to use it at all. I want to get away from it not add more to it going into retirement soon on Social Security ONLY for our income which isn't enough as it is.

If your photos aren’t valuable to you, this whole problem is trivial.

If your photos are valuable, but you’re not so concerned about theft or loss or damage to your equipment, you can store those locally on your Mac.

If your photos are valuable and you’re concerned about theft or loss or hardware failures, then you will want backups, and preferably backups of all of or of your most important data stored elsewhere. iCloud is one way to do that, but there are others, such as storing photos on good-quality DVD media and transferring and storing those DVDs elsewhere. Or providing copies to a trusted friend or relative.

This is a decision only you get to make.

What to do?

I have an external hard drive I back up my entire computer on. As long as I don't have to do anything, then you are saying when Photo Stream goes away I will still retain the photos on my hard drive & of course it would be backed up on external hard drive. Of course they are important, but also reality is I can't afford to keep paying for EVERYTHING everyone is starting to charge you for as a subscription. Retirement isn't a luxury - it's hard & unless you're rich you don't have money to be monthly-ied out the butt on. It's great when you're young, but not so much unless you've built a fortune & we didn't have that luxury. If Soc Security is ended ...well, so are we.

When my Photo Stream is turned off will my photos remain on my MacBook Air hard drive?
