Magic Trackpad 2 only charging to 72%

I bought a Magic Trackpad 2 some months ago from Currys UK but only connected it yesterday, when the batteries in my Magic Trackpad 1 finally died. This is on a 2011 Mac Mini, now demoted to just a streaming device in my bedroom, where I rarely use the trackpad, as I normally access this Mac remotely using Jump Desktop from one of my Macbooks. This Mac Mini runs High Sierra 10.13.6, the highest that will run on this machine. The new trackpad connected with a bit of difficulty (I had to temporarily connect a mouse to add it to the Bluetooth devices) but it then worked properly. On the trackpad app in System Preferences the battery power level was showing at 60%, so I left it on charge all day from a 60W Apple Charger, using the supplied USB-C to Lightning cable. with a view to conditioning the internal lithium battery. It has only charged to 72%.

Any suggestions folks or is it a visit to the Apple Store? The receipt from Currys has long vanished.

I thought I would try a different charger on the Trackpad 2, an Anker multi-port one, which I use in my bedroom for charging phones, iPads and other rechargeable devices. Unfortunately this was too far from the Mac Mini for the Bluetooth to connect, so I could not monitor the Trackpad battery charge level. I was going to try something else, using a large 20,000 mAH Anker power pack next to the Mac Mini but first switched the Trackpad off and on again to make it discoverable on the Mac Mini. I had the Trackpad App open in System Preferences and a couple of seconds after reconnecting, I saw the charge level jump from 72% to 100% and no, I don't "get" it either but it seems as if it has sorted itself, thereby negating the requirement for a visit to the Apple Shop in Brighton. As I am currently having to go into hospital each day for daily treatment, this is a relief.
