Turning @iCloud.com alias into a new Apple ID

So asking this one for a friend as we're trying to find a solution to turn what is currently her 'alias' into a primary Apple ID.

So the Apple ID is currently an @me/@iCloud email with an old name on it.

My friend added her new name as an alias and it's all working perfectly.

However she wants to delete the original name / email from her account and have what is currently the alias as the primary (and only) email.

So Apple don't allow this to be done, I've read all those posts. So my question is, is there any barrier to the following:

  • Delete the alias from the current Apple ID
  • Create a brand new Apple ID using the deleted alias as the new primary ID
  • Then delete the old Apple ID in its entirety
  • Use the new one

Would the alias be available to be used to create a new ID or upon deletion is it's deemed unable to be retrieved?

Anyone done this?

"Note: You can’t delete or turn off a primary iCloud Mail address. You can’t use an alias to create a separate Apple ID, and an email alias can’t be converted to a primary iCloud Mail address."

No, once your Apple ID is deleted, you can't use the email address that you used with it to create a new Apple ID. In addition, you can't use that email address with another existing Apple ID except as a rescue [notification] email. Also, if your primary Apple ID email address is with a Custom Email Domain, it can never be reused to create an Apple ID after your Apple ID is deleted, even if the domain ownership changes."
