Cannot sign up to Apple TV on new Samsung S95C TV

Signed in with my credentials on the TV, clicked on “Start 3-Month trial” then “Confirm”, then it says “Authentication Required” blah blah blah about having to continue on the phone, clicked “Continue” and it says “Connection not available”.

Tried to reinstall the app on the tele, tried to delete/reset the data through the app and sign in again but nothing works.

I am really trying to give you my money here… after all the marketing and stuff how come you let some silly issue like that go unresolved? I’m starting to think whether I should actually subscribe at all.

Thanks. Candidly, the answer sounds and feels like a stock customer support answer, hence why I replied in the way I did. It’s not particularly helpful, but I appreciate the intention nevertheless.

I did find a way to solve the problem. There is clearly a problem with the Apple TV application when it tries to use an Apple device to authenticate the user - I don’t see a way this could have been caused by the hardware or TV system, so it’s on Apple to resolve. Here is the workaround:

  • In the Apple TV app, sign in as usual
  • Go to store and buy some random inexpensive movie, so that it registers a first purchase (I am not sure if this step is necessary, but I did it to try to get the app to stop asking for the authentication on an Apple device in future purchases - I recommend you skip this step first and if it doesn’t work then repeat the process including this step)
  • Go to settings, then restrictions, then enable restrictions for purchases
  • It will require you to type in a pin
  • Go to the home screen and activate your 3-month free subscription. Instead of trying to authenticate through an Apple device, which will cause the connection error, it will ask your pin - type in your pin and it should hopefully work

Hope this helps, while (and if) Apple resolves the issue.

I haven't been able to sign up for AppleTV+ on my Samsung TV for over a year now. I do not own an iPhone and thought that was the issue, but that's not the case.

When I attempted to rent a movie first I actually was able to answer some new questions that had never come up before - like if I would require password for each purchase or not.

Once the renting was done I could finally sign up for the AppleTV+ subscription.

Devices: Macbook Pro (Monterey), Samsung Q70 TV.

Apple apps or software sure you can ask on these forums. As you get used to these forums you will find a forum for each app or hardware. For example, when you look for an iPhone forum please look for the version of iPhone and version of IOS that is installed on your device prior to posting so you can find the forum that most closely matches you app and/device. If you cannot find it, when drafting your question please state what you have. For example, "I have a 2021 24" iMac running Mac OS 10.3.x and cannot figure out how to XXXXX" or if you happen to own a Mac and have a question on the Photos app, then you would look for the Photo’s for Mac forum rather than a Mac forum or a general Photos app as there is also a Photos app for both IOS and iPad IOS. It’s a bit confusing until you fully understand.

Also, when you contact the Apple forums please note about 95% of the time you are conversing with end users just like you. Apple reps rarely post on these forums, Apple is our host. If you want support directly from Apple they’re primary vehicles for that are going to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and speaking to someone or you can call AppleCare, to find the phone number for your area please click AppleCare Contact Info.

Thanks. Alternatively I can just use a different streaming service as every other one works with the TV out of the bat. Clearly it's a Samsung issue, not an Apple issue, given it happens exclusively with the Apple TV app. Perhaps I should start contacting Dell when I have a software problem, or perhaps you guys when one of the apps in my iPhone crashes.

Regards.
