I just installed my new Mac Studio, M2 MAX. I am trying to setup the Touch IS but I'm unable to get past the first step.
The computer tells me to quickly double click the power button but nothing happens when I do this.
The Studio is running MACOS Ventura 13.4
Any ideas?
OK I found the problem. I did a Google search and found this article - https://mac-adviser.com/how-to-fix-touch-id-on-magic-keyboard/. The first comment was the fix. I apparently wasn't double clicking the MAC Studio power switch fast enough.
I tried it again but with a fast double click and it worked.

At this point, it sounds like your best bet is to contact Apple Support directly.
Just to double-check – is your keyboard one of the Magic Keyboards that have Touch ID?
Some of them have it, e.g.,
and others don't, e.g.,

IAW the article linked by katana-san, so power button touching is appropriate.
(I am not sure whether that counts as inappropriate touching.)

have a new Studio M2 MAX running OS Sonoma V 14.1.1. set up new on 10/15/23. day One the touch ID refused to set up. other issues arose. finally took time to report them. on phone with Apple today. Tech reported to have never heard of problem-yet there are numerous posts online & in here. does anyone know how to fix?

Those instructions sound like MacBook Instructions, Not stand=alone touch-enabled Keyboard instructions.

I have been following this info and the on screen procedure. Still not able to add fingerprint.

Yes it is a Magic Keyboard WITH Touch ID, Black and the MAC Studio is new with the M2 MAX chip.
I was on the phone with Apple support for about an hour yesterday. They had me doing several things including reload the MAC OS. Still no success.
