As you can see the inner folder part remains but the entire section that houses the folders for all my notes is now gone. I can view them on my other mac. Its really quite strange. Did i activate a shortcut or something without knowing to hide the folder section?

We're happy to help out with the Notes app on your Mac. Based on what you're seeing, you should be able to clear this up by doing the following from the resource titled View your notes on Mac:
"If you don’t see the sidebar: Choose View > Show Folders."
Enabling "Show Folders" should resolve this, but let us know if you need additional assistance.
