GMAIL in safari emails won't open

When I login to gmail in Safari and I click on an email I only see email subject with the "reply" and "forward" immediately below.

The only way to see the body of the email is to click the "Open In New Window" button.

I'm running:

Safari: 16.4 (18615.1.26.110.1)

MacOS: 13.3.1

MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

Could be a lucky break on my part, but I navigated within safari to Settings->Websites->Content blockers. It was allowed for Gmail. I toggled to off and it appears to have fixed my problem. Never selected it to be on so maybe it was applied during an update, idk. Wishing everyone luck!
