So what is the point of the lift feature in photos if it doesn't remove the image, and you can't paste it in another photo?
I lifted an image out of a picture to a white background because I want to impose it on another picture, but that isn't possible. So what's the point of the feature if you can't do anything with the cutout once you lift it?

We are technical support, we can't start to imagine the unique ways every user will use a specific feature.
While you might not be able to paste it into a Photo in your Photo Library, there are many other apps or documents you can paste it to.
You might like to watch some videos on the way people use this. There are many on Youtube, but you can start with the first tip here, which gives a pretty cool option and example:

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to use the feature that removes the background in an image in the way you want. Since this Apple resource on this feature (Lift a subject from the photo background on iPhone - Apple Support) doesn't mention this as part of what you can do with this feature, please Apple know you would like this option here:

So what can you do with the feature? I understand how to do it, I don’t understand the point/what I can do with it. Once I lift a subject out of a photo what do I do with it if I can’t paste it in another photo? What’s the point of the lift feature?

The only reason a feature like this would be useful is to paste it on another picture.
