CarPlay and Sony car stereo

Hopefully someone has some insight on this issue…I recently purchased a Sony XAV-AX4000 stereo that was professionally installed. I have had CarPlay issues from day one. Connectivity has been spotty at best, but has improved since I updated the stereo to 1.25.07 firmware. Phone is a iPhone 12 running iOS 16.5. Most features and connectivity is ok at this point with the exception of navigation. I was able to use the stereo for navigation for approximately 1 month with accuracy, but was having to constantly reset network and or location settings to get it to work. Now I inconsistently have navigation working with most times the CarPlay and phone being frozen in the last known location. If I disconnect the phone from CarPlay, my location is instantly updated and navigation on the phone works as normal. If I reconnect to CarPlay, it’s a 50/50 chance on whether it will work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it freezes, sometimes my arrow just goes floating off into space, or sometimes it returns to my last know location. I have made several calls to Sony customer service with no help, and several trips to my cell phone service provider without any resolution. Since it has worked some in the past, I’m not sure if it’s a hardware problem with the stereo, or the phone. Installer has agreed to replace the stereo but today told me there are known issues with CarPlay currently regarding connectivity and navigation when it comes to some stereos and that it’s a software/update issue. Phone provider states it must be a stereo issue since the phones navigation works when not connected to CarPlay. Either way, navigation via my phone in my car is unreliable at best and is useless to me as is. I’m a home health professional and spend a lot of time driving to different areas/ locations aka why I upgraded my stereo. Just wondering if anyone else has any better insight to this issue.

RANSOM58-

SONY AX7000 here.. it is a problem with the IOS 16.5 update- I know this because I have been using CarPlay with my Sony flawlessly for over a year. Since the update (end of May) my CarPlay has been a nightmare! I googled & did every suggestion out there (every single one of them: reset stereo, reset phone, new cable, everything).. It wasn’t until I spent endless hours searching these apple discussions that there’s so many people having issues!! Some have even paid the dealership to reprogram their HU/stereo in their car and still no fix.

The only fix that I didn’t see anyone mention was to replace the USB port in their vehicle. I replaced the USB port in my vehicle this weekend & CarPlay is currently working. Coincidence, I don’t know, time will tell…

While I wish that would work….my Sony is wireless CarPlay. No option for wired CarPlay for Apple products. I do think it’s something with the hardware/software in the receiver that is not talking the correct CarPlay language as I exclusively used my Tacoma this weekend with a factory head unit and my navigation was perfect. Tacoma DOES NOT HAVE CARPLAY…..so I no longer think it’s a phone hardware issue. I’ve updated the phone to newest iOS and stereo to newest update. Connectivity is better, but it’s 50/50 with navigation. When it does start out working, usually stops within the first few minutes, or will work then suddenly revert back to last parked location, or just freeze and give me the ever persistent “ Proceed to the route”. Ended up buying a Garmin for the time being…..hoping either Sony or Apple get this sorted out….but I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
