Why does Apple ID suggestions show a recovery invitation?

I was going to my iPhone settings today to change something and noticed I had Apple ID suggestions and when I checked them it said something about recovery contact invitation from and then an email after. I already declined it but how did someone send me a recovery contact invitation could It have been accidental like did someone accidentally type in my number when sending the invitation, I already checked all my messages and not a single one has anything about a recovery invitation so I’m a little worried can someone help please.

Hi there Spaceisendless,

If you received an invitation to be an account recovery contact from a number you did not recognize, it very well could have been in error on the side of the person that sent the invitation. As long as you declined the invitation, then there should be nothing to be concerned about.

You can also follow these steps from Help a friend or family member as their account recovery contact to check if you are a recovery contact and remove yourself if need be:

How to remove yourself as a recovery contact
If you don't want to be someone's recovery contact, follow these steps on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later
1. Go to Settings, then tap your name.
2. Tap Password & Security, then tap Account Recovery.
3. Under Account Recovery For, tap the person's name. On iPhone, remove yourself as someone's recovery contact
4. Tap Remove Contact.
On iPhone, remove yourself as someone's recovery contact

The contact sees a message that you're no longer their account recovery contact.

We hope that helps!
