I recently received an e-mail "A recovery contact has been added to your account." but I haven't changed my recovery contacts recently.

When I checked my recovery contacts, I only saw one I had added myself a month or so ago. My father (who is my recovery contact) also mentioned receiving an e-mail from Apple asking him to accept this responsibility.

Is this a scam or does Apple sometimes send out automated e-mails like this, long after changes were actually initiated? Or does Apple check in every few months to make sure both parties still want to continue this set-up?

iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 16

Remember you are not asking Apple here. We are other end users and not privy to Apple's internal processes nor reasoning.

Does anyone else have access to your device?

The recovery contact feature is relatively new and I have not seen a lot of questions about it. I do not see anything in these pertinent Apple article on the subject that addresses and unknown addition.

Set up an account recovery contact - Apple Support

Help a friend or family member as their account recovery contact - Apple Support

I can only recommend contacting Apple Support (in spite of the confusing forum name, they are not here) and ask for clarification.

Is this regarding the iPhone in your equipment profile? If so, I can ask the Mods to move you to the iPhone forums where you will get more views and faster help. This forum section, "Using Apple Support Communities," is for reporting issues with using the forum software but has turned into a dumping ground, thus getting very few views.

No one answered the question user asked about. Getting a text asking to see , Does apple send out random texts asking to check recovery codes.? What’s the answer for that?

Maybe that is because this is the English-language version of Apple User Communities and many of the users are in the U.S. and were in bed when the person posted at 1AM Pacific daylight time.

Also it is a major holiday weekend in the U.S. and many people travel at this time.

So please do not chide other users here. We are not Apple employees but volunteers who help on a time -available basis. Neither are these chat rooms. If you need a instant answer, this is not the place to get it.

I was sent an email saying I shouldn’t chide anyone.? I honestly wasn’t trying to be demeaning to anybody. I also am not looking for instant answers to questions asked. It was pointed out to me it was 1:15 am. When I posted. Yes, it was, because I was extremely tied up during the entire day and that was my personal time to try to communicate. I thankyou for your response, it’s helped me in many ways.
