I just wanted to double-check: if I kept the same iPhone 6 device but swapped out the current SIM card to a new card from a different provider, will my data (contacts, photos, videos, etc.) still be retained on my current phone, or would they be lost?

To extend the above correct reply:
iPhone does not store contacts or any other data out on the SIM, though iPhone can import existing data that might already exist on the SIM. In most cases, there’s nothing on the SIM other than the subscriber information.
To swap the SIM, the iPhone must be unlocked:
