FaceTime won't work on my MacBook Air

My FaceTime won't work on my Mac book. When I press the call icon no change is made to the screen. It has been like this since I bought it. Help!

Hi ruthiebanks,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. You've reached us from a great article about FaceTime on a Mac. Have you checked your camera as shown in this article? Can you use it in different apps? To review those steps again, since they're the best steps to help resolve this, check out: If FaceTime isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support

If the camera isn't working, then please review this article: If the built-in camera isn’t working on your Mac - Apple Support

If those steps don't help resolve this, let us know if you receive an error when trying to make a FaceTime call. Does this happen with one contact or all of them? Is the other party signed in to FaceTime as well? These questions will help us isolate the behavior further.

Kind regards.
