The GPU on my Mac Studio is Faulty
OK. Lots going on with my new (January 23) Mac Studio M1 32Mb
Yes I know the GPU is dedicated processing rather than a graphics card (I wish it was a graphics card)
Latest is this:
- Opening two files in Photoshop and going from one to the other using the tabs will leave a ghost image of one of the files on top of the other. This is without using any inputs or tools at all, I simply click from one tab to another. The ghost image will not move, and selecting the move tool creates a garbled, pixelated mess like a 70s video effect. The ghost image is not a new layer, and the layer structure of the file it appears on hasn't changed. But the ghost image obliterates the actual file. To be clear: Image A appears on top of Image B if I click from one to the other via the tabs in Photoshop.
- Images open as fractured and garbled, like looking through a kaleidoscope. Sometimes they open as all black.
- New files have black sections all over them, or are entirely black.
- Text fractures and splits apart as I move it.
- Layers fracture and split apart if I move them.
Having used Macs and Photoshop since the mid 90s I am in no doubt whatsoever that something is very wrong. I have never seen this behaviour exhibited before. Something is really amiss here. I also get the occasional UI glitch in Premiere Pro where the timeline fractures if I move something.
I strongly believe there is something not right with the Mac Studio integrated GPU, at least this particular one.
The question is - what can I do about this? Will somebody at Apple reach out to me and take this unit off my hands so that you can at least examine what the issue is? Do I have to go through the tedious process of attempting to get a replacement unit from the original supplier?
The thing is, you need to be using this machine for twelve hours a day to see these things happening, they are not constant and are very difficult to catch on a screen recording. So I can't see the original supplier being too accommodating.
Apple - please get in touch with me, this Mac Studio has a serious fault in how it is processing graphics.
