Sharing Apple TV plus

I have an Apple TV plus subscription and shared with family in another city. How do they use my share on their smart tvs?

My son could not bring it up so I thought it required an Apple ID. But when they used his wife’s Apple ID to sign in there was no sharing option. Instead, she was charged for a new subscription. How is it supposed to work?

Hi artrookie,

From what you've shared it sounds like you're attempting to add family members to your subscription. The following page goes over the steps you'll need to take: Add a family member to your shared subscriptions - Apple Support

If you already set up Family Sharing
After you set up Family Sharing, eligible subscriptions are automatically shared with your family members. If your family members can't access a subscription, here's what to do:
1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then tap your name.
2. Tap Subscriptions.
3. Scroll down and make sure that Share with Family is turned on.
4. Tap the subscription that you want to share.
* If the subscription is individual or student, upgrade your subscription to a family plan
* If the subscription isn't made by Apple, it might not be eligible to share. To share a subscription, turn on Share with Family under Family Access.

You'll find additional steps if you haven't already set up Family Sharing within!

Take care.

My partner purchased an Apple TV device for our smart TV. He activated the 3 month trial of Apple TV+ using a gmail and password on a windows browser computer. He does not have an iPhone, iPad or Macintosh computer. I do have a Mac laptop and iPad and my own separate Apple ID logged in on those devices along with an iCloud plus account for custom email domain use. We want to setup the Apple TV on my Macintosh laptop and iPad so I can watch when he wants to watch something else on the big TV or while I am traveling. When I try to log into Apple TV on my Macintosh laptop it gives me an error. I only see instructions to add a family sharing through a iPad or iPhone - neither of which he has with his Apple ID. What is the work around to add my 2 apple devices in the same household when he does not own apple products (other than apple tv box) to set this up? Is there a way to do this through the Apple TV box on its own?
