I have a 2022 Rav4 and when plugged into usb data port there is no volume control available….music blasts at full volume which is both distracting and damaging to hearing. Apple tech support blames Toyota and states no known issues. Yet years of complaints showing here with same issue over many different car manufacturers….what is the common denominator here? No tech support fixes…sigh.

problem solved! Go into Apple setting-CarPlay- delete car- then when you connect your phone again press and hold the voice control on steering wheel to properly pair. Volume control worked perfect after this and sound quality was excellent
I have a 2022 Nissan pathfinder & when my new iphone 15 pro is connected to CarPlay it will not let me adjust volume from my phone. My volume buttons also stop working randomly out of the blue all together & I’m having to restart my phone almost daily to make my volume buttons work. Also have been hearing a clanking sound in my phone since my 13pro & other chats have stated it’s t-mobile. This is so frustrating it almost makes me want to go back to android! How can apple not figure out volume controls??!
I’ve had this issue too with my ‘22 rav4. I mentioned it as an issue on my first service last year but they couldn’t replicate it again so nothing was actioned. It’s still happening a-lot but now since getting my iPhone 15, my whole system now mutes as soon as my phone is plugged in and connected to CarPlay. Super frustrating!!
I was able to just fix it. Thank god as mine was stuck at full volume! I held the volume down on my phone while watching a clip and then tried adjust the volume on the car while still holding the volume down on the phone and magically the volume can be adjusted.

Mine will not work. New cord. Reset radio. Unplugged phone. Turned off Bluetooth. Reset CarPlay. NOTHING will work to make it to where the volume will adjust while using CarPlay.
I had the same issue. Updated the infotainment software with the latest patch from Toyota and it’s fixed now.
Toyota has a long and well documented history of compatibility problems with both CarPlay and Android auto due to taking shortcuts and not abiding by the published APIs from Apple and Google.
Because Toyota took shortcuts that broke when iOS was updated. If they would have followed the guidelines documented by Apple to begin with, they wouldn't have a problem.
(I have a 2022 Toyota Prius, bought it last year with none of these issues occurring until last month)
Alas, this did nothing at the time. The last and final fix that worked was a new cable. But maybe this will work for others??
I have a 2020 Rav4, if I restart my iPhone the volume will work for 1-2 trips then stop working again. It is completely insane.
Mine started working again after installing iOS 17. Today, I installed 17.0.2, and my volume and skip controls no longer work again.
My skip controls have stopped working as well after 17.0.2
2020 RAV4. It worked when we first got it, then it didn't. I will try all the fixes in this thread.
I found a work around. I could not lower the volume while watching reels in traffic, until I opened up pandora on CarPlay then I was able to control the volume. Sucks but kind of a fix
