I have a 2022 Rav4 and when plugged into usb data port there is no volume control available….music blasts at full volume which is both distracting and damaging to hearing. Apple tech support blames Toyota and states no known issues. Yet years of complaints showing here with same issue over many different car manufacturers….what is the common denominator here? No tech support fixes…sigh.

I got the same issues with volume and song control on June 27, 2023. Before that, I had no issue to control all these settings on my RAV 4 2022 with iPhone.
My solution is: go to your iphone setting -> General -> Carplay, and then delete your car in the list. After that, reconnect your iPhone with RAV4. This works for me.
The issue is no volume control at all….no volume bar popup on the head unit screen and volume buttons and knobs don’t function at all. Setting a volume in CarPlay won’t change the fact that there is no volume control at all….this is clearly an Apple issue in my opinion. But, we shall see. I will dig thru the manual and carplay settings and see if I am missing something. Thanks for the input folks!!
Hey y’all- I have the same issue with volume and skipping songs. Toyota couldn’t figure out the issue, so they replaced my radio (still under warranty thankfully). That STILL didn’t resolve the problem so I’m on the chat with Apple support. I’ve tried a bunch of different cables, Apple ones included, to no avail. Will update if I learn anything useful.
I have the same issue. I have a 2023 Tacoma. So my problem is that while waiting in my truck for whatever reason. I like to use my phone for instagram. I can’t control how load those videos are. I can control my volume when using YouTube. So now if Ian instagram and it’s to load. I go to YouTube turn the volume down and go back to my videos
For me and my 2020 Toyota Rav4 the issue is unresponsive volume control, and usually the volume is too low for my liking. Sometimes the volume will work but it is very "laggy" ie there is a delay between adjusting the volume knob and any change in volume. VERY frustrating. When using bluetooth the volume works fine.

Mine will not work. New cord. Reset radio. Unplugged phone. Turned off Bluetooth. Reset CarPlay. NOTHING will work to make it to where the volume will adjust while using CarPlay.
I have a 2020 Rav4, if I restart my iPhone the volume will work for 1-2 trips then stop working again. It is completely insane.
Perhaps, but I wonder why this only started happening AFTER the Apple update prior to the recent update. Consider Occam’s razor. Ah well…I have a Toyota service appt next week and I will see if they have any solutions. Thanks for all the input folks. Just frustrating.
I have a 2022 Nissan pathfinder & when my new iphone 15 pro is connected to CarPlay it will not let me adjust volume from my phone. My volume buttons also stop working randomly out of the blue all together & I’m having to restart my phone almost daily to make my volume buttons work. Also have been hearing a clanking sound in my phone since my 13pro & other chats have stated it’s t-mobile. This is so frustrating it almost makes me want to go back to android! How can apple not figure out volume controls??!
I’ve had this issue too with my ‘22 rav4. I mentioned it as an issue on my first service last year but they couldn’t replicate it again so nothing was actioned. It’s still happening a-lot but now since getting my iPhone 15, my whole system now mutes as soon as my phone is plugged in and connected to CarPlay. Super frustrating!!
Because Toyota took shortcuts that broke when iOS was updated. If they would have followed the guidelines documented by Apple to begin with, they wouldn't have a problem.
(I have a 2022 Toyota Prius, bought it last year with none of these issues occurring until last month)
Mine started working again after installing iOS 17. Today, I installed 17.0.2, and my volume and skip controls no longer work again.
My skip controls have stopped working as well after 17.0.2
2020 RAV4. It worked when we first got it, then it didn't. I will try all the fixes in this thread.
