Apple CarPlay Volume not working

I have a 2022 Rav4 and when plugged into usb data port there is no volume control available….music blasts at full volume which is both distracting and damaging to hearing. Apple tech support blames Toyota and states no known issues. Yet years of complaints showing here with same issue over many different car manufacturers….what is the common denominator here? No tech support fixes…sigh.

problem solved! Go into Apple setting-CarPlay- delete car- then when you connect your phone again press and hold the voice control on steering wheel to properly pair. Volume control worked perfect after this and sound quality was excellent

Hey y’all- I have the same issue with volume and skipping songs. Toyota couldn’t figure out the issue, so they replaced my radio (still under warranty thankfully). That STILL didn’t resolve the problem so I’m on the chat with Apple support. I’ve tried a bunch of different cables, Apple ones included, to no avail. Will update if I learn anything useful.

Trying to use volume control on the steering wheel, the car stereo head unit and tried the volume control on the iphone as last resort. No way to control volume unless phone is connected via bluetooth only. Thus no maps if not connected via usb. Makes navigating and listening to music at the same time impossible. Apple, in there infinite wisdom programmed the phone to play at full volume when connected to CarPlay. Seems they programmed CarPlay to also play at full volume. Thus hearing damage and panic when the stereo blasts at 100% and no way to lower the volume. Tech support says Toyota issue.

The issue is no volume control at all….no volume bar popup on the head unit screen and volume buttons and knobs don’t function at all. Setting a volume in CarPlay won’t change the fact that there is no volume control at all….this is clearly an Apple issue in my opinion. But, we shall see. I will dig thru the manual and carplay settings and see if I am missing something. Thanks for the input folks!!

I got the same issues with volume and song control on June 27, 2023. Before that, I had no issue to control all these settings on my RAV 4 2022 with iPhone.

My solution is: go to your iphone setting -> General -> Carplay, and then delete your car in the list. After that, reconnect your iPhone with RAV4. This works for me.

This isn’t an Apple issue. It’s a Toyota issue. It if we’re Apple, it would effect everyone, but all too often we see people here with issues and they own Toyota cars.

try to did in settings in your car and see if there are volume controls for Apple CarPlay. There were in my Mercedes and there are settings in my new Genesis GV70!specifically for CarPlay.

Where are you trying to change the volume in your car? With the iPhone or with the volume control on your steering wheel?

In my car, CarPlay volume is controlled by the volume control on car car's steering wheel. And in the Settings in my head unit, there is a way to increase or maximum or minimum volume for Apple CarPlay. I have set that setting to maximum, then use the steering wheel to make volume changes.

I would say this is a Toyota Settings issue.

I have the same issue. I have a 2023 Tacoma. So my problem is that while waiting in my truck for whatever reason. I like to use my phone for instagram. I can’t control how load those videos are. I can control my volume when using YouTube. So now if Ian instagram and it’s to load. I go to YouTube turn the volume down and go back to my videos

Try going to Apple Music settings, turn on sound check. For some reason music isn’t always at the same volume. Yet sound check brings it all to the same level. I put an after market stereo in my suburban and at volume 1 it’s loud. Even turned all the way down in the volume settings of the head unit. The steering wheel controls are the same as the head unit. No separate settings guys.
