iphone location share

A few years ago I found my location share was turned on for a person with whom I did not share it. They had access to my phone for a few minutes a week prior. Is there any way other way the location share can turn on than actively turning it on?

Hey there jmn_2000,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We can help you with your questions about Find My. As far as sharing your location, that is not something that can be enabled without expressly toggling that feature on by following the steps here: Find people and share your location with Find My - Apple Support. That article also has information on how you can stop sharing your location as well, which may be something you'd like to look into given the situation you described.

Here are the steps for that:

Stop sharing your location
To stop sharing your location with everyone, follow these steps. You can also stop sharing with a specific person, or turn off Allow Friend Requests.
1. Open the Find my app.
2. Select the Me tab.
3. Turn off Share My Location.

Stop sharing with one person
1. Open the Find My app and select the People tab.
2. Choose the person that you want to stop sharing your location with.
3. Scroll down and select Stop Sharing My Location.

Turn off Allow Friend Requests
1. Open the Find My app.
2. Select the Me tab.
3. Turn off Allow Friend Requests.

If you delete the Find My app, you location is still shared. People with whom you've previously shared your location can still view your location. If you want to stop sharing your location, reinstall the Find My app and follow the steps to stop sharing your location.

We hope that this information is helpful.
