I have the same problem with battery life greatly decreased after update. From going all day to dead in 4~5 hours. Apple watch 3 paired with iPhone 14. Tried all of the suggestions, reboot, hard reboot, unpair and repair, reset to factory conditions, configured as a new watch, turned off all background apps, turned off location, did most of these steps multiple times. Took watch to apple store who said everything was fine. Replaced the battery and had same results, replaced the battery a 2nd time and had same results. Took my another family members apple watch series 3 and paired it as a new watch with the iPhone 14. This watch had been working fine and had all day battery life. After the pairing which required updating the apple watches 3 ios it now too has horrible battery life, down to 4~5 hours. This is most definitely an Apple caused problem, I am not holding my breath on Apple fixing it as it may be there way to force people to upgrade watches that previously had been working fine.

i think it's something wrong with New WatchOS because before yesterday it was the same watch same phone with same configurations same apps on it and it was working like charm. as soon as i updated to the new WatchOS this thing happens.

There are many thousands (millions?) of users who have made the same update, and there are very few reports of problems. If v8.8.1 had a bug it would hit every user, and there would be many reports from users seeking help.

I suggest begin with a full reboot of your Apple Watch to eliminate any failed or corrupted apps in memory, then work through the troubleshooting suggestions posted by LD150

We also have this bad issue on all of our 4 pieces of Apple Watch Series 3 under watchOS 8.8.1 (19U512) in our family (all with the extended memory of 16 GB, 1 aluminium gps + cellular and 3 stainless gps + cellular). Please resolve this issue quickly.

All of our other Watch Series with a different watchOS versions are not affected.

I am also having severe battery drain issues, with my Series 5 Apple Watch, which started after a software upgrade a month or so ago. I have long ago turned off all unnecessary functions;made sure both iPhone and Apple Watch are up to date; paired, unpaired, re-paired; reset both phone and watch (as new watch); uninstalled every bit of software. And still my phone, after giving it a month to self heal from the software upgrade, won’t hold the charge for more than 4-5 hours. I tried the overnight battery leak test, and my battery which was 100% last night when I turned off my watch was still 100% this morning.

This 3-year old watch, one of the most expensive watches I have ever owned, is essentially unusable. I am continuing to try any new tips that are offered so that I can recoup my investment.

This is a conspiracy theory of the most illogical type. They produce updates that can be installed successfully on 5 year old devices with zero problems. Your difficulty with your device is personal to you and should be looked at individually, and should not be conflated with any Apple master plan you may have imagined.

You are also pairing a 2022 phone with a 2017 design Watch that cannot even take OS9. Good luck with iOS17.

Yes but obviously this is affecting many many users, even just evidenced by this discussion, and is not just a personal issue as you describe.

But for me, the watch has become a paper weight after this update. Could easily wear this thing for 2 days, and then suddenly it can’t even last 10 hours.

Tried resetting it to no avail but beyond that, these silly battery battery diagnostics are not going to help anyone as this issue was caused by the update.

I personally just bought the SE on sale from Walmart because I doubt it will ever be fixed. But I do hope that Apple surprises me for once
