Brand new AirTag from the store says it’s connected to another Apple id
why when I bought my AirTag from the Apple Store and set it up when it came in the mail it says it’s connected to another Apple ID , did I get a used one ?

Are you sure you bought this from Apple? If you did, you can go to your closest Apple Retail Store; bring the box, AirTag, and receipt to prove you bought it.
If you bought this from somewhere else or someone pretending to be Apple, you were most likely scammed and are now being tracked.
I would suggest removing the battery either way as whoever linked it to their Apple ID can see where you are.
