Find My Network on AirPods

There is an option in the AirPods settings that says “Find My Network”, which is disabled. But when I try to enable it, it doesn’t allow me to, it says the previous owner can see its location and that they have to remove the AirPods from Find My. But I already called the previous owner, and they said that my AirPods aren’t on their Find My list of devices. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The AirPods are still attached to the original owner's Apple ID. Please see notes and guidance in
