Why message is greyed out in iPad settings? Not being able to login to iMessage and face time. This is my kid's ipad and using his iCloud account and no phone numbers. The device is connected to wifi.

I had this same issue. For me it happened when we set up a new iPad and transferred data.
The solution was
Go to Settings / Messages / Send & Receive. Scroll to the bottom, select the Apple ID, sign out and sign back in. As soon as we signed back in, everything worked.
If that doesn't work, make sure your parental controls are not disallowing the use of Messages.
Try temporarily turning off the setting in screen time that allows account changes to be made.
I am having this same issue with iMessage and FaceTime settings greyed out on my daughter's ipad. I can get into the apps, just not the settings for them. Can you elaborate on what specific parental controls would be effecting this?
I have the exact same issue. My kid has an iPad and a watch connected to her apple ID. iMessage and FaceTime settings are greyed out in settings, and I couldn't find the parental control that enables it...
I am not receiving messgaes on my iPad ,I tried to enter messages in in my settings and it is greyed out along with FaceTime is also greyed out
Did you find a solution to this? I’m having the same issue and have spent at least 2 hrs checking every setting of my iPhone and the iPad I control. Nothing is working.
