Older Ipod

Hi, my dad has a 3rd generation iPod nano he is wanting to connect to iTunes. I do not believe that it is compatible with newer versions. Apple support told me to download an older version, however, the oldest version available on Apple is 9.2.1, and I don’t believe it download it correctly on the computer for windows. Does anyone have an idea on how to sync the iPod to iTunes?

I believe that it is compatible with all recent versions of iTunes, including the current one (on the day of writing this, that's iTunes 12.12.9.4).

iTunes is used on all Windows PCs and on the older Mac OS Mojave (10:14) or earlier. If you have a newer Mac, using OS Catalina (10:15) or later, none of which have iTunes, use Finder instead.

So the first question is: do you have iTunes installed on a computer now? If so, connect the iPod to the computer and see whether iTunes recognises it. If it doesn't, have a look at this Apple article: If your computer doesn’t recognise your iPhone or iPad – Apple Support (UK)

If you are still having issues, post back here with detail about what happens when you connect the iPod to the computer.
