Why Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max Screws Rust or Corroded Easily ? Care+ Warranty Void

I got an iPhone 13 Pro max which Apple Care+. When apple declined service/repair mentioning that there is an " Unauthorized Modification" on the iPhone, I was shocked to see that the screws are rusty/Corroded. If you research bit more you will see so many have the same issue. Apparently the screws, steel parts does rust on iPhone and your warranty will get void.

You can't find it by direct eye. Take a high quality picture, enlarge and see.

The sad part here is this was purchased directly from apple, and only used by me till date. Never gave the phone to anyone even for few min use. I didn't have a software or hardware issue on this phone until the accidental fall and crash of screen. When I gave the phone for repair to Apple Authorized service Center is the first time this phone was with someone else. There is no liquid Damage on the phone reported, and I never used it water. I live in southern part of India, which is coastal area, but not very close to sea. I am 100% sure that no-one tried to remove them. Like I said I have a valid Apple Care+, If I had an issue, first thing I would do is to contact Apple for support.

I have been researching and found several posts in this community itself were many reporting similar issue. If anyone search "apple iphone rusty screw" in google can find the links.

I strongly feel there is Quality issues with the screw, which apple not yet realized it.

Then the AASP did a lousy job. They are actually supposed to replace the screws, and those screws were damaged from using the wrong tool to remove them or reinstall them, or they aren’t actually Apple provided screws. Take it back to the shop that repaired it. And if you purchased it in the US then an AASP elsewhere should have refused to work on it, as service is only available in the country of the original sale. Or they weren’t a real AASP.

Appreciate your message. Sorry, seems you missed my text that it was purchased from Apple, while I was in US. Why on earth someone will try to do a D-I-Y on a phone which is covered under warranty. I have been using Apple iPhone and only used Apple phone 2008.

They are plated screws. They won’t rust unless the plating is damaged, such as by someone trying to remove them with the wrong tool. Which looks exactly like what has happened. Also, they won’t rust unless they get wet, which also voids the warranty.

There could be numerous factors to this point. It is possible the facility in your area may not properly store its devices correctly, The distributor in that area may also use inexpensive parts, It is also possible that if this is a refurbished phone bought through a reseller, it could have after-market parts, or if you tried to D-I-Y something specifically on the phone itself.

I do agree with the previous commentators, that the bolts appear to have been tampered with, and unfortunately it won't be picked up from Apple's warranty. I live in the US, and currently posses the 14 pro-max. The bolts are not corroded, or appeared to be tampered with and are securely in place.

Best of Luck in finding a resolution though!

Jackie.

Got the same issue with 15 PRO MAX titanium. Never opened, never let anyone touch the phone. One day I just got both screws corroded. I live in Thailand and it is pretty much humid here, but the thing is that I never really touched screws with anything and always had a protective case. Now it’s impossible to unscrew one of the bolts and I don’t know what to do if something will happen to my phone. Less then 6 month owning.
