Face ID not working after replacing the screen

I replaced my screen with a third party screen, and now the face ID has turned itself off because it does not recognise the screen on my phone.

It is actually an apple screen, it's just not registered because the third party company doesn't have the rights to do that.

So my screen is working fine, the True Depth camera is working fine. And still the Face ID is not working.

Apple store advisors say my only option is to get my screen replaced again with apple for another 250 euros. This seems excessive for a software issue. Is there any other way to bypass this setting?

iPhone 11, iOS 16

Hello emmi182,

The only "bypass" would be to use a passcode to lock the device instead . If you want to use the Face ID feature, then you'll have to follow the instructions provided to you by Apple to get the device properly repaired.

When a screen is replaced the Face ID feature has to be calibrated to work properly. The Face ID sensor in the screen is tied to the Secure Enclave that is integrated with the processor chip in your device. When you replace a screen, it is a new Face ID sensor on the device, therefore it needs to be connected with the Secure Enclave to work. This is part of the tight security built in to Face ID. Here's some general info about the security measures involved in making Face ID work:

About Face ID advanced technology

Secure Enclave

Only Apple Stores or Apple Authorized Service Provider locations have access to the machines and software to make Face ID work on a new screen. If you had the screen replaced by some 3rd party location and they used a 3rd party screen, then Face ID will not work until the device is properly serviced at an authorized location. You can search for Apple Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers here: iPhone Repair & Service

Cheers!
