How Silence Unknown Callers feature works on iPhone?

Please explain how Silence Unknown Callers

feature works on iPhone. As far as I understand this feature was

introduced by APPLE with iOS 13 on about 7 May 2021.

Before that it was IMPOSSIBLE to block calls on iPhones (APPLE did NOT allow call blocking before).

I am trying to understand how exactly Silence

Unknown Callers feature works on iPhone? Do they apply a silent ring

tone in order to silence unknown callers? How do they do that?

Appreciate your detailed, step by step explanation (pls. keep in mind I’m not a programmer).

Thanks,

iPhone 13

I am not asking for that (I understand that). I am asking what is the process, step by step explanation.

So far it looks like that one option is:

1) to redirect the call to voice mail so that the caller can lеаve а меssаgе. This means the call is accepted (not blocked).

2) "the call will be rejected by the phone" what does it mean? rejected how? - so the phone will not ring? or will ring once and display a warning, or what will happen? or the phone will not send back to the caller any signal or confirmation at all (playing dead, not existing number) - please clarify.

Thanks,
