Control brightness on 27" Apple Cinema Display without 3rd party option?

It's absolutely insane that Apple doesn't allow us to change the brightness of our screens. Apparently it only works with 3rd party software.

There's no way I am installing such software on my computer. Not everyone can install random software from the internet on their computers.

Does anyone know a solution (eventually through Terminal, or through other non-invasive means) to fix this issue?

I believe Apple just wants us to buy a new display. It looks like they made an active effort to make these displays obsolete. It makes Apple look like criminals, it's a shame.
