Apple ID
Mac OS X lion application can't continue forward due to appleID and Password problem. I changed it and problem continues. is for a Mac book pro A1278 OS lion installing new hard drive

Use http://checkcoverage.apple.com/ to find out the year of your Mac.
Do not quote the serial number on Apple Support Communities. It is either in the battery bay or in fine print you might need to read with a magnifying glass on the underside of the computer.
The mid-2010 and later Macs can be upgraded to High Sierra:

Sierra 10.12.4 or later is needed for multifactor authentication support to show the secondary code from your iPhone, iPad, or other AppleID connected device in its own field. Earlier versions of Mac OS, you need to insert it in the password field immediately after the password when connecting to your AppleID.
You may also need to reset the computer's clock as is documented on the tip to be able download upgrades.
To install Lion on another hard drive, that has no data, you need to use Disk Utility to reformat it HFS Extended GUID first without case sensitivity before installing Lion. That's for both cloning purposes and using the installer from the App Store if it is in your download history.
