Why is McAfee showing up on my screen saying it has detected viruses on my MAC? Is it scamming?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

It is a scam. Do not click on anything in the warning.

If you use Safari, disable notifications in Safari settings.

Yes, this sounds like a scam. I would recommend scheduling a visit with an associate at an Apple Store. in the mean time, make sure to avoid clicking any links or popups that appear.
