Apple TV+ Buffering Constantly and only Apple TV+

We recently subscribed to Apple TV+

Other services we have:

Prime, Netflix, Max, Peacock, Paramount Plus, MLB.tv, and Hulu on none of them at anytime do we have a buffering issue. We watch in 4K and do so on multiple devices including: Apple TV, Nvidia Shield 2017 and 2019, and Roku Ultra. We use them at two different homes with internet service at both (separate of 940 down/40 up).

The only service we have had a buffering issue with is Apple TV+.

All of our devices are hard-wired to our router.

The buffering is showing right now even though our system is show full available bandwidth little to no jitter and very low (sub 20ms) latency.

The buffering occurs on all of our devices at various times. I have tried reinstalling the apps on these devices and the buffering will occur again after anywhere from a few minutes to a few days.

Just in case, have you tested your Ethernet Cord connected from your AppleTV Streaming Unit to your Router, and your HDMI Cord from AppleTV to your TV?

As well, Ethernet 5e Cords should work but a 'newer Standard' Cord

may help. The HDMI Cords should be Gold tipped.

Ethernet & HDMI ports also may

Wear Out when 'plugged unplugged'

over time. I recommend Klein Tester

for those Cables & Ports.

I've had these same Streaming problems; replacing Patch Cords and

Testing their Ports helped isolate my

Buffering. As well, my ISP BandWidth

was 50Mbps so I increased to 60Mbps.

Do you own a BandWidth Meter?

Don't trust 'so called' Internet 'Speed Test apps'. I agree; ISP

Service Reps are not adequately informed/trained to verify your

BandWidth to/from their 'in home'

Network Interface Device termination box.

Perhaps a comparison between

BandWidth success when Streaming

UHD 2160p verses Standard 1080p

may inform the buffering occurrence

because UHD does require more

BandWidth. Yeah I know, your BandWidth is 'waaaay above' ANY

Streaming concerns depending on how many users in your home may

be Streaming, Gaming, using WiFi for

CellPhone simultaneously.

Are you familiar with 'Flow Chart'

trouble shooting? It helps isolate

likely faults and simplifies your

'already tried' solution attempts.

Good Luck

Apple does not monitor our discussions here; we hope responses may help. They often do.

Apple failures: Customer Service will often fail to discuss tech failures. You'll need to REQUEST Contact with a Apple Engineer to examine your concern. At least you may ask

Apple Service Rep to forward your

concern to Engineering who will call you, perhaps, tomorrow.

Of My 4-apps, ONLY Paramount+ buffers regularly.

I use: Settings, General, Storage on my AppleTV 4k to:

Delete Paramount+ app, go to the AppleTV apps, Download the, now,

empty Cache Paramount+ app. Log into the app and Buffering stops, usually several days due to empty app Cache.

As well, your ISP will only test your Subscriber NID, then ask you to ReStart the NID, your Router, and be sure that Power Cables are bundled away from Data Cables and suggest you do your own System Troubleshooting.

BTW, unless you pay for a 'test app' from a source other than your ISP, your BandWidth Tests are, likely, routed on a Low or Seldom Used Fibre, which shows BandWidth data

higher than your Paid Subscription.

The PLUS is: You'll spend so much time & money on your concern that

you MAY learn how to resolve such

issues yourself.

i'm having the same experience. we got a 3 months free subscription with my mclaptop and another 3 free months with our samsung tv. everything is up to date, but apple tv is also the only thing that buffers, which is why we don't use it much. netflix and disney+ is streaming fine at 4k, but when applytv is playing, the quality sometimes drops so low that you can't see facial expressions, then slowly comes right for a birt and then goes bad again. currently we can't even make it through a single show without it failing and showing an error. i definitely won't subscribe past the trial so that i can pay money to be able to watch nothing.

OK... so out of all the comments, I've figured that the 4K Apple TV hardware are the only ones with the "buffering" issue. I've since started using the stream (Apple TV app) on my TV. Guess I will be updating sooner or later but for now, I am not having any issues with the TV App.

Thanks for the comments, Everyone!

We have been having issues with our ATV4K box and the internet connection. Particularly during "peak times" of the evening.

  • One is connected directly to the router with a CAT8 ethernet, the other is WiFi only
  • Router has been replaced
  • ATV4K has been factory reset
  • Network data speed is around 950Mbps DownLoad and UpLoad
  • Wired ATV4K drops to 200Mbps Download but stays at 950Mbps UpLoad
  • Wireless ATV4K drops even lower to around 120Mbps - which sounds like more than enough, but streaming buffers and/or fails to load
  • NO OTHER device anywhere on the network shows similar drops in speed, ONLY the two ATV4K boxes

Is this a bizarre bug to add to the list of Apple bugs of late?

This discussion forum is not monitored by Apple.

However, our Home Network(s) should always be arranged by electrical separation. For instance: All Data Cables must be placed away from any Power Cables.

Streaming Devices such as The ISP NID, your SoundBar/Surround Sound

devices. AppleTV or other Streaming Device(s) need 10inch minimum separation from all Electric Powered Devices such as your TV, Router, AppleTV and possible Electric Power Devices NOT part of the Network such as Lamps, Robot Vacuum, Phone Charger, or other Electric Devices. I organized my Cable Separation with a Soft Velcro banding every couple of feet, it helped!

My AppleTV 4k Streaming Units started 'much buffering' when Apple

made AppleTV+ 'part of the AppleTV Streaming Unit Operating System'.

I dropped my AppleTV+ subscription when buffering became unbearable.

Paramount+ is my most viewed app and it often buffers. So I use the AppleTV Remote to: 1-Select Paramount+ app, choose Delete app,

ReStart my AppleTV 4k unit, open the app Store, select Apps, locate & select Paramount+, press the On Screen Cloud Download Image, wait for download to complete, Press the Open buttonPress SIGN IN(I use my email & password to sign in on this device, choose SIGN IN, press the Who's Watching Image, and that deletes all Data from the app except the Paramount+ app StartUp. NOW,I can view a Movie or a Streaming Program without Buffering. That recovery from Buffering method take over twenty 'clicks or moves'. But it works for me.
