Wrist Pain Continued…

There was a thread awhile back about wrist pain using the Apple Watch. Most likely it’s from constantly checking the watch and rolling your wrist over to check the Watch frequently. With a regular mechanical watch you only check it when you want the time. If you’re getting tons of notifications and keep checking the watch it could cause stress on the tendons in your wrists and elbows. I have experienced this and had it diagnosed. I’ve since limited my notifications to important ones only.

Been having super bad pain as well, in the wrist and back of the hand .... I use to wear all the time for a few years until about 3 months ago when the pain stated being quite bad ... I took off and after a few days the pain was gone, put when I start wearing again the pain comes back within a few hours. Been doing this for a couple of months as a test and always get the same result. I don't think it's a coincidence, I believe it is definitely the watch, will be putting away and only maybe use while exercising.

Another common condition that would be exposed by wearing a watch is cervical radiculopathy. One characteristic of the condition is upper limb nerve hypersensitivity to pressure (ie from wearing a watch) and stretch ie reaching awkwardly behind you when sitting in a car seat.

This underlying sensitivity can be very subtle to the degree that one may not realise it’s there until exposed by a new stimulus. In this case the watch is not causing the condition, but amplifying it the point where it becomes strongly symptomatic.

I treat this regularly in my physio clinic :).

thanks

Ryan

I have an Apple Watch. I used it and started getting an inflammation issue in my hands and wrist. The pain was noticeable all day and all night. It was like the worst case of arthritis. I took otc, my rheumatoid arthritis medicine and nothing helped. I stumbled across a chat that said it could be the watch. I reluctantly put my watch away for a few days. Pain lessened in 4 hours and gone in 48 hours.

I just left the watch in my piled of wasted money. Lol. I made the mistake of taking it to my new job. I flew to Prudhoe Bay, a Alaska. I took a job that it was easy for me to get messages via my Apple Watch. I noticed pain immediately. I started having the worst hand pain in wrist pain ever. I couldn’t close my hands all the way I was doing ice baths I was doing heat therapy. I was applying a topical Aspercreme with lidocaine. Nothing would touch the pain. This is for days and in my shift on a 14 day rotation, I could barely hold an ink pen. I then remembered why I left my watch in the dresser of the crap that I bought that didn’t work for me. I took the watch off and in 3 to 4 hours I had a steady decrease of pain. The next day was so much better and buy the second day leading into my third night I had for mobility of my hands. I want my step tracker because I walk about 17,000 steps a day up there. I’m not sure if this is an apple thing or if it’s something with my body. Has anybody had success using another product?

I haven't, I just figured they wouldn't really care since they already made the money and all reason on their site is saying we are wearing it to tight :-( ... I now only wear it when I do exercise but noticing that it still start to hurt after wearing for about 30 min, and switch to step count on my phone. But ya, kind of defeat the purpose of having the watch for tracking your health ... gotta say, kind of annoyed and worried as well.

This makes sense. My wrist started hurting today, wearing my apple watch. When I take the watch off, the pain is resolves.

I just got the watch a couple of weeks ago, but I've been having on and off neck discomfort for the last month or so.

Not necessarily pain, just discomfort. However, I had a neck injury about 15 years ago, so I sensed that it was something like a pinched nerve or some sort of nerve issue, but it is just not painful like it was then. The pain in the wrist from wearing the apple watch, I guess just further exposed it. Booking a doctor appointment now!
