transferring to new mchine

Sorry if this sounds naive - I am considering replacing my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), with a new macbook that runs Ventura (cannot upgrade this machine). I have used time machine to back up.

Can i just run time machine back-up to transfer everything over? Will it transfer all three profiles?

Am I likely to hit any snags - would it be better to give this machine to the Apple store to transfer everything - I cannot afford to lose any files?

Many thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

You are talking about Migration Assistant to transfer TM data. Transfer to a new Mac with Migration Assistant - Apple Support

You can exclude a given user if you wish.

Honestly, yes you can have problems. The process is simple but things do happen. Don't try this via wi-fi and you should be OK.

You can also transfer data the old fashioned way by putting your data on an external HDD and using Finder. But DO NOT do this with TM data and Finder, that can damage the data. You have to copy the files manually to the external and manually onto the new Mac.

Be absolutely certain you continue to create backups routinely via Time Machine or your chosen app. and you will drastically reduce the risk of data loss.
