not getting notified of calls coming into my phone
phone is essentially not ringing, but tells me after that someone called.

Hello bjmac1975,
It sounds like you may have a Focus mode enabled, which can silence incoming alerts. Check out the information at Use Do Not Disturb with Focus on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support and see if any of those look to be on.
