I do not hear any ring for a phone call or sound for a text.

In that case, you have the Action Button. Whether it is set to the Silent Mode switch I do not know. What I do know is that you can swipe down from the top right of your iPhone to access the Control Center, then tap the red bell with a line in the middle to turn off Silent Mode. See if that does the trick.

Try adding the control to your Control Center. Tap the plus in the top right of it, tap Add Control, then search Silent Mode.
My phone now rings but no sound notification when a text come in. At the bottom of the phone screen is "reduce interruptions". I can't seem to get rid of it. I wonder if that is the culprit?
