How to use OneDrive or iCloud

I want to send a voluminous package to someone else. This package consists of one folder on my hard drive. Within that folder are two folders. Within each of those two folders are a couple dozen folders, each one bearing a date in the format "6/30/23." Within each of those folders are anywhere from one to four files, most of which bear dates in the format "6/30/23."

The organization of these documents is very important. I will not ask my correspondent to reorganize the hundreds of individual files if I send those hundreds of files as a chaotic mess.

The size of the master folder far exceeds my available bandwidth. One of the folders within that master folder likewise is far too big to be emailed.

I looked at iCloud. It says that I cannot upload folders. I guess that I might try to recreate in iCloud the folders that I have on my hard drive, but that is not a good use of my time.

I tried OneDrive, but it stopped uploading after two or three empty folders with the same names as in the folder on my hard drive.

I did get a message somewhere along the line that OneDrive does not recognize file names with a virgule ("/") in them. Again, I do not have time to go through the titles to the hundreds of files and folders and change those virgules to periods.

I did a cursory web search for any applications that might automate the process of converting file and folder names into formats acceptable to Microsoft. I may have found some scripts for Terminal. I may also have found one for Automator. Terminal is a little too technical for me, and the Automator script did not appear to be fully what I want.

Does anyone have any idea for efficiently uploading this such folders and files to a location in a cloud somewhere so that I may share them?

Hey there R_55a,

What you can try to maintain the organization is compressing the folder. It will make it easier to upload the folder. Here are the steps for how to compress the folder:

Zip and unzip files and folders on Mac - Apple Support

You should then be able to upload the compressed folder.

Kind regards.

Hello R_55a,

You can use these steps to share files through iCloud:

1. In iCloud Drive on iCloud.com, select the file or folder you want to share, then click the Share File or Folder button.
2. Click Share Options, then choose who can access the file or folder, who can make changes, and if participants can add people to the file or folder.
3. Choose how you want to share the link:
Email: Click Share. In the email window that appears, invite participants by adding their email addresses or phone numbers in the To field. Make any additional edits to the email, then click Send. The email option is only available when you have iCloud Mail turned on.
Copy Link: After you select Copy Link, a text box appears. Add the email addresses or phone numbers of your participants. Click Share. A new window appears with the link for your file. Copy the link and send it.
When you share a folder, only the participants can view the files in the shared folder. To invite more people to access the files, you must change the settings of the shared folder. You can’t select an individual file or folder within the shared folder and add participants to it.

Cheers!

No luck.

As before, I logged into iCloud.

I opened iCloud Drive.

In my first attempt, In the iCloud Drive window I clicked on Browse.

I navigated to the folder that I want to upload to iCloud Drive.

Safari presents me with this window:

Notice that Safari allows me to upload only files. Safari does not present me with any option to upload folders. In this navigation window, Safari allows me to go into the subfolders and the sub-subfolders. I can upload the individual files within the sub-subfolders.

In my second attempt, while in iCloud Drive, I created a new folder. I selected this new folder within iCloud Drive. I repeated the process of navigating to the folder that I want to upload. I got same

as I did when I only tried to upload the desired folder directly to iCloud Drive.

As I said, I have hundreds of files within the three levels of folders. If I uploaded the individual files, my correspondent would lose the benefit of the organization that I made of the hundreds of files. My correspondent would then have to repeat the time-consuming task and reconstructing the organization that I have already made. I will not ask my correspondent to make that effort.

How does one upload any folders to iCloud?
