m2 screen crack

I’ve purchased my 14” M2 MacBook Pro on 5/15/23, and the screen cracked on 6/28/23. It has no case, keyboard cover, camera cover, or mousepad protector. In other words, not a thing on it to interfere with the screen. I have never taken it out of my house and keep it where I kept my last MacBook Pro. I baby these machines because they are how I make my living. And, by the way, this is my 4th MacBook, and I have never broken a screen, nor on any iPads or iPhones.

Of course I have to pay $99 for the defect to be fixed, and the rep who called me said I would have to pay another $99 if if happens again. I have a feeling it will. I’m curious as to how many people this has happened to and how Apple dealt with it. Is there a fix to this defect? Also, has it happened to you more than once?

Because when you go into the forum area for laptops, the initial window is: Mac - Apple Community

Then you would select the specific laptop model:

Then you post in the specific area for your laptop. Also note the last "Apple MacBook" was their 2017 model.

There were 3 separate Mac laptop models, but as of 2018, there are now only 2 separate models, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. The MacBook was discontinued about 1 and 1/2 years after the release of the 2017 model.

Search this forum and you'll find several instances.

You're not likely to get much of a response to your questions, some might, but you're basically asking the world of users to tell you their individual stories.

Apple dealt with them according to their corporate policies just as they dealt with you.

You might be better served to search the web if you're that curious about other's experiences..

OK. But to what end? If you think that will carry weight with Apple, it likely will not. Apple has its corporate policies and they will decide what they want to do in their own time based on their internal decisions.

The best you can actually do is provide feedback and encourage others with the same problem to do the same.

Good luck!.

I also have a cracked screen on the 2022 MacBook Pro M2. This is in addition to defective indexing, which was confirmed by a Senior Applecare Advisor and Engineering, and a corrupted Preview App, limited battery life, overheating. It's also impossibly slow. I purchased it in April through Apple online (refurbished) and it is a dog. I have Applecare but it will cost me $300 for the fix in addition to the $1,700 + I paid for it according to the Applestore. I haven't done anything yet but the screen is so bad it's not usable. I'm writing this on my 2015 MacBook Pro, which still runs like a champ.

There was a class action suit settled by Apple in 2022 for the same (or similar) cracked screen problem in 2021 M1 MacBook Pros. According to what I've read, the design for the 2023 has not been changed so maybe that's an option, but I have no idea how to go about researching it. What has changed is Apple. Over the years I've had 5 MacBooks, two of which were problematic. Apple exchanged them without a hitch in both cases. That's why I've stayed with Apple. But the stores only quote "the rules." I no longer recognize Apple; it's no longer the customer-centric company it once was.

"so maybe that's an option" ... legal action is always and option.

The point is this community cannot deal with physical damage, cannot pretend to know what Apple will ultimately do and cannot assist you in your quest with anything other than advice that covers non hardware problems. Well, we can discuss physical issues, but the "fixing" is Apple's domain.

Whatever you choose to do ... have at it. Best of luck to you.
