Charging problems after software update 16.5.1 IPhone and iPad

After the software update to 16.5.1 I cannot charge my Apple IPhone and IPad with the normal Apple chargers. I did not any problems before and I tried all of my chargers (4x Apple originals). Do have anybody the same problems s and are they solutions possible?

“Normal chargers”?


Recent models of iPad are all supplied with a 20W USB-C Power Adapter. Be aware that the older USB Type-A Power Adapters (with the larger rectangular connector) have been deprecated and have been phased our in favour of the current standard USB-C. Many countries/regions (e.g., all member states of the European Union) now legally mandate that portable rechargeable devices must use USB-C for charging.


Apple does not, to my knowledge, still manufacture [now obsolete] USB Type-A Power Adapters that where, at one time, commonplace.

Troubleshooting generally requires substitution of the Power Adapter and cable for another known-good item. Most models of iPad require a Power Adapter rated at 12W or greater to reliably charge. 5W Power Adapters intended for older models of iPhone are inadequate to charge an iPad; if the iPad charges at all, charging will be very slow.


Be aware that many computer USB ports cannot source sufficient power to charge an iPad. Unless explicitly designed for charging connected devices, computer USB ports are typically limited to 0.5-1A @5V (i.e., 2.5-5.0W).


If you continue to experience difficulties when using an appropriate Power Adapter of 12W or greater, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

I suspect you have missed the point that I have attempted to make…


USB-C is the new “normal”. USB Type-A is obsolete technology that is being replaced. Your older USB Type-A Power Adapters (as were likely supplied with older iPhones), may be adequate for charging mobile Phones, but in many cases are unsuitable for modern devices such as iPad.

One of the details provided LotusPilot's reply is inaccurate. Apple's Accessory Specification requires a charging accessory to produce at least 10.5W when charging a Lighting iPad or iPhone. 12W is not required.


(Actually the Apple spec is stated in terms of how much power is delivered to the iPad -- which brings into play the length of the cable connecting the charging accessory to the iPad. I've simplified this by focusing on the amount of power being produced by the charging accessory.)
