When my Macbook Pro is in clamshell mode, (lid closed & connected to an external display, keyboard, and mouse) I am unfortunately unable to wake the computer unless I open the lid. Is there any way to wake the computer in clamshell mode solely using the external peripherals?
(using wireless magic keyboard & trackpad)

I'm experiencing the same thing since updating to 13.5 on an M1 16" MacBook Pro.
Previous to this update it would work.
Only solution I've found is to remove the usb-c cable from the Mac and then replug it in, then tap on magic trackpad and the screen will awaken.

If the display is connected to a Mac laptop computer with a closed lid, make sure that the Mac is connected to power and using an external keyboard and mouse.
You did mention that your keyboard and mouse are connected, but you will have to have your MacBook Pro connected to its power cable as well.

Apple has demonstrated they have no interest in continuing the use of this feature. The article describing how to use it has been removed.
The definition of what happens when you close the lid on your MacBook Pro is that it goes to sleep. If you get any other results that you can use, consider yourself lucky.
You may indeed have to take extra actions when using features that are no longer well supported, including opening your MacBook Pro to re-establish closed display mode.
In my opinion, you are lucky the feature works at all.
Your MacBook Pro will NOT do closed display mode AT ALL without external power applied. so something needs to be plugged into AC power.
The displays you could run with USB power off your Mac are far lower resolution than the very nice built-in display on your MacBook Pro.
Use the built-in display, and live happily ever after.
Well it is a 5K monitor having external power and plugged directly to the MacBook Pro via USB C. The MacBook Pro itself is powered also. Everything worked fine until the Ventura update 13.4.1 ...
For me it seems the Apple has changed something about USB C connected devices. Maybe for security reasons.
I have the same problem... everything was working fine until the update Ventura 13.4.1. It has broken the clamshell mode. 13.5 did not repair that. Any solution?
